"Uh, You Don't Know Who I Am?"

So, I have this article here that someone sent to me out of pure meanness because he knew it would force me to write a blog post because I loathe a certain Georgia quarterback. Uh hem.

Anywho, the article is here. It states that the 49ers don't want Stafford because he won't open up to a shrink. It says they want him to talk about his parents' divorce. I don't really care about that. What I get from this article is that the son of a bitch is so goddamned arrogant, he thinks he can get on any team he wants any way he wants. And the 49ers just said, nah uh--their way or the highway. Somebody better have his walking shoes on. I, for one, am very pleased by this. Why?

Well, let's recap my history with said quarterback genius (cough), Matthew Stafford:

I'm signing people in at a fraternity (who shall remain nameless) party because they have some stupid rules about underage drinking and stuff. A kid walks up to me, and the following is the conversation that takes place:

Me: "ID please."
Stupid Freshman: "Uh, what?"
Me: "I. Need. To. See. Your. ID."
Stupid Freshman: "Ha. You don't know who I am?"
Me: "Ha. No, I don't, and I don't really give a damn either."
Stupid Freshman: "Uh, Matthew."
Me: "Uh, Matthew, I need your ID."
Stupid Freshman: "Uh, Stafford."
Me: "Uh, Stafford, I need your ID."
Stupid Freshman: "I'm Matthew Stafford." (Long pause.) "The quarterback."
Me: "And, I'm Jesus. Now, give me your ID."

You get the point. I didn't give two shits that the kid knew how to throw a football. He's arrogant, and he's an ass, and that loses games. He lost games for Georgia because of the big head. He will lose them in the NFL because of the big head. Someone needs to bust his little bubble.

Super Bowl XLIII

All I have to say is
100 fucking yard touchdown.

You're a Loser!

You remember that Megapede game for computers. You know, like, from the 80's? OK, so I was the only one who was a loser and played computer games in the 80's. (Might I remind you I was born in 1984. Yeah.) Anywho, at the end of the game, it would say, "You're a loser!". There were numerous other things it said, but I always think of that when I think of losing. If this isn't the picture of the week, I don't know what is.

That is the screen shot of the Oklahoma coach right after they lost the BCS title game. Ah, the joy of having a media center PC! Thank you, Daddy!

Gators are National Champs, Like It or Not

As it goes every year, people are pissing and moaning about the BCS and how this team or that team deserved a chance at the national title and blah blah blah. I hate it for you. Florida holds the National Title--again.

Look, everyone's team has been on the losing side of the BCS stupidity. I fully admit it sucks. But, let's remind ourselves how difficult the SEC conference is. I mean, really, let's be honest with ourselves. Sure, Florida had a loss. Sure, it was to shitty Ole Miss. But, the SEC teams continuously hold several top rankings every year. It's no stranger to titles and championships--by any stretch of the imagination. That has to count for something, and it is amazing that SEC teams constantly see title games. Only the Big 12 has had more showings in the past 11 years (SEC had 5, Big 12 had 6).

There is always going to be a "what-if", "but", or asterisk next to every win, title, and championship. The Gators wouldn't be there if they didn't deserve it. Sure, the other teams might have deserved a shot at the title, too, but you don't get to go to the title game if you suck and have no heart. I think it's time the jealousy takes a back seat. We should be congratulating them for a game well played (a matter of opinion, no doubt)--not marring their win with conditions and maybes. I won't say the cliche "It's just a game." because, to most of us, especially down South, it is NOT just a game. It's tradition that runs deep in our veins. However, there is always next year and, then, the next. Your team's time will come if they work hard and play hard. Let's not be sore losers.

Moral of the Story: Plaxico Burress PSA

I saw this a while back (like, way back, when this happened), but someone just emailed it to me again. I figured most of you have seen it by now, but just in case you hadn't, I had to post it. And, hell, even if you have seen it, watch it again. Because that shit is funny. I mean, just f'ing hilarious.

"I Know. I'm Amazing."

So, in case anyone was wondering, I'm the most amazing fiancee ever. Yep, that's me. This is what I got Travis for Christmas (among other things, of course):

Yes, that's exactly what you think it is. A UGA football helmet signed by none other than Vince Dooley AND Larry Munson.

I know. I'm amazing.

Attention UGA Fans!

Calling all UGA fans for a GREAT cause.

Uncle Rick, a.k.a. Mr. UGA, a.k.a. Dad's brother, has some connections. And, he has in his possession an official UGA football helmet worn by none other than Mr. Knowshon Moreno (complete with all the little dog bones and stuff they wear but NOT signed).

Raffle tickets are $20 each. Note that you will not actually get a ticket, but the names will go on a board numbered 1 to however-many we have, and one number will be drawn from a hat at the end.

HOWEVER, if you are absolutely dying to have a UGA football helmet, Mr. UGA may be able to get you one for the not too shocking price tag of $200. Don't faint, and, remember, all profits go to Mom and Dad to help pay for his ongoing medical bills.

As an update, he had his fourth surgery Saturday night (emergency surgery), and he is in ICU. For those of you who don't know about what is going on, here is the short version: Travis' Dad, Charles, had colon cancer. He had surgery to remove part of his bowel, and it was a complete success as far as the cancer goes. The tumor is completely gone, and the cancer had not spread, at all, so he didn't even need chemo. However, he then had another surgery to fix a little leak where they reconnected things. He went home the day after Thanksgiving, after 22 days in the hospital. Unfortunately, the wound wasn't healing, and he was readmitted the following Wednesday. He had a third surgery that Thursday to pull the muscles together for the incision to help it heal. On Saturday, they did an emergency surgery to put in a colostomy bag because the bowel was leaking inside his body. He developed sepsis from this, and has been in ICU in a drug-induced coma since Saturday night. Margaret (Travis' Mom) hasn't left his side for more than a shower since this started, and she is not working. He is improving, and they are slowly removing the machines that were needed to keep things going while he was in the coma and bringing him out. He isn't home free, but he is stable and going the right direction .

If you know us, and you would like to help out our family, please do not send flowers or gift baskets, please buy a raffle ticket! Buy one even if you hate UGA. You can ebay the damn thing and make your $20 bucks back plus some.

If you don't know us, I swear this is legit, and it will make a wonderful Valentine's gift for your man (because we all know Valentine's is not designed for the men) or your sensible woman (since we all know sensible women love football, not flowers that just die).

You may email me at lindseyatuga@hotmail.com if you would like a ticket or if you have any questions.

In TEXAS for Pete's Sake

You know that show "Heroes"? You remember when it first started, and it was all "Save the cheerleader, save the world"? Well, somebody better save these cheerleaders. Because they are in big trouble. The cheerleaders of Nacogdoches High School in Nacogdoches, Texas staged a skit during a pep rally depicting them shooting the opposing teams' cheerleaders, execution style, in the head. Now, I've had a few sports rivals I wouldn't mind abusing, but that's kind of scary, and people are upset:

"More than 120 students have signed a petition protesting 'gun promotion' at pep rallies, but the school principal, Nathan Chaddick, called the skit 'simple, innocent satire' to boost school spirit, according to the Sentinel."

I can see where it might upset people. I can't say I entirely approve of this type of humor. I don't think guns are really all that funny. It's a serious weapon with serious consequences. I know this was all in fun, but if 120 students, at a school in Texas of all places, are upset by it, I think they are justified.

Say It Ain't So, Larry!

Larry Munson is retiring. Effective immediately. With the death of Uga VI earlier this year, and now the loss of the "Voice of the Dogs", this is truly a tragic season for my alma mater. I can only hope that they can pull out a National Championship to honor Larry and Uga VI.

I Told You So

I told you Brett Favre should have just given it up, but he wouldn't:
"This Brett Favre thing isn’t working out the way the Jets and their long-suffering fans expected. At the moment, it isn’t working out at all.

"It was easy to see why on Monday in the Chargers' 48-29 win over the Jets. It was the perfect test case for the great Favre experiment that breathed so much excitement into a moribund Jets franchise. Both teams came in desperately needing both to make a statement and to win a football game.

"The Chargers passed the test with flying colors. The Jets and their famous and Hall-of-Fame-bound quarterback didn’t. And they didn’t just lose. They were annihilated."
Don't say I didn't warn him.

Dear Bulldawgs, Please Don't Let Me Down

Rivals.com has made their prediction for who will play in what bowl games. They have put UGA in the title game with USC. This is my letter to the bulldawgs:

Dear Bulldawgs,
I know I like Florida. That is just a fact that I cannot help. It comes from a time long ago--before you and I knew each other so well. But, you are my alma mater; and, most of the time, I am proud to have known you. You are supposed to be the "it" team this year. You are supposed to beat everybody in college football. My dearest Bulldawgs, please don't let me down. I am counting on you to come through. I am counting on you to not choke and drop the ball (pun intended). I know you have to suffer through another year of that son-of-a-bitch Stafford who is the biggest dickhead this side of the Mississippi who can't tell his ass from a hole in the ground, but please try to make up for his shortcomings as a man of wee brain and big ego. I don't want you to lose to my boy Tebow (He's got a smokin' hot bod! I'd fuck him sideways!*), but, by God, if you start playing like shit again, I'm jumping ship--even if Florida doesn't make the top 10 in the BCS--and I will not know you. Good luck and God speed.
Best Wishes,
Linz

*Note: I don't actually feel this way about Tebow, I just say that for Travis' benefit. A little inside joke for the two of us. You guys don't need to know everything!

Cheerleading IS a Sport

Studies have shown that cheerleading is the single most dangerous sport out there for high school girls. While cheerleaders make up only 3% of the 2.9 million female high school athletes, they make up 65% of all catastrophic injuries sustained by females. The injuries only include those that caused death, paralysis, or other long-term serious impairment, so the actual numbers are not very high. However, the number of cheerleaders taken to the emergency room each year is nearly 25,000. That doesn't include all of those sprains, bruises, and drops that don't result in a trip to the ER.

This ain't your Momma's cheerleading! This is the cheerleading of broken legs, arms, backs, and necks. This is the cheerleading of torn tendons and ligaments. This is the cheerleading of knocked-out teeth, black eyes, and big bruises and carpet burns. This is the cheerleading that IS a sport.

Sadly, the gyms and schools are not keeping up with the ever-increasing interest and involvement in the sport. Many squads still practice on gym floors with no mats. (Now, having been a cheerleader myself, I can say that those mats are pathetic excuses for safety equipment. They are about 1" of hard foam placed on a hard surface. And, honestly, they don't do much. But I can't imagine getting dropped the way I did on a gym floor. I probably would have been paralyzed. Instead, I just have chronic back pain. Yay!) Not only do many squads not have the proper equipment, they lack coaches with proper training. A real cheerleading coach has training in gymnastics, spotting, stunting, jumping, injury prevention, and first aid. Sadly, many people still think of cheerleaders as the bimbos on the side of the football field. But, they have evolved into amazing acrobats capable of inhuman stunts and tumbling. And, more and more parents are allowing their children to start earlier and earlier--to get that edge. It is time for people to recognize the accomplishments of the sport that is cheerleading--the high-flying, loop-da-looping, all-out tumbling, back-flipping, hand-clapping, fierce yelling, ESPN-invading sport that it is. And, it's time for people to put more effort into making it safe for our children.

Below, I have listed the recommendations from the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research
  • Cheerleaders should have medical exams, including a complete medical history, before they are allowed to participate.
  • Cheerleaders should be trained by a qualified coach with training in gymnastics, partner stunting, spotting and other safety factors.
  • Cheerleaders should undergo proper conditioning programs and training in spotting techniques.
  • Cheerleaders should demonstrate mastery of stunts before trying complicated routines. They should not attempt stunts they are not capable of completing.
  • Coaches should supervise all practice sessions in a safe facility. Mini-trampolines and flips or falls off of pyramids and shoulders should be prohibited.
  • Pyramids over two high should not be performed. Two-high pyramids should be performed only with mats and other safety precautions.
  • A physician or a certified athletic trainer should be at all games and practice sessions. If one is not available, written emergency procedures should be available to all staff and athletes.
  • There should be continued research concerning safety in cheerleading.
  • When cheerleaders have experienced or shown signs of head trauma, they should receive immediate medical attention. Signs to watch for: loss of consciousness, visual disturbances, headache, inability to walk correctly, obvious disorientation, memory loss.
  • Cheerleading coaches should have some type of safety certification.

The Inside Scoop

I feel like the fat, nerdy version of Gossip Girl. I have heard a very interesting tidbit of information. According to my source, who we will call "Mom", the girl who is renting from her has the the inside scoop on the next Uga. Apparently, the only descendant old enough to be the next Uga (Uga 7) has a brown spot on his back. That's not news, you say? Oh, but it is, my friends. Uga has to be solid white to be Uga. Thus, if they use him, they will have to dye his spot white! The girl who told "Mom" this is a veterinarian technician at the University of Georgia Animal Hospital. She bathed Uga 6 every Friday like clock-work last season. So, she's fairly up on the Uga news. She said that, when Uga 6 was dying, the guys from Savannah called to see if there was anything they could do if they flew Uga in. I guess it didn't work out. I'd say the possibility this is true is about 95%, and the possibility that this coif-challenged member of the lineage is going to be the next Uga is probably about 50%. That's my best guess. She's a fairly credible witness.

Just Say Goodbye, Favre

Who gives a flying rats ass about Brett Favre? I mean, he can't even say his own name right. In fact, I don't think anyone can. Since when was Farve spelled with the v before the r? It's more like Favor or Favra or something about as gay as he is. Seriously, the guy is the biggest cry baby ever. I mean, we might as well just call him Ross Perot: "I'm running. I quit. I'm running. I quit." Damnit, man! Make up your mind! I mean, I realize there are about a million Packers fans out there, but they are all just a bunch of cheeseheads if they can't see that Aaron Rogers' time is here. I mean, when UGA let DJ Shockley play, the world did not come to an end. And the kid would have been playing for the Falcons last year when Michael Vick decided to be a flaming retard, but he got hurt in a damn preseason game. Yes, PREseason. The poor kid didn't even get to play a real game. But, alas, I digress. I'm just sick of hearing about Farve (sic). I think he's just got sand in his man lady parts. I don't give a hoot, anyway. I'm just ready for some silver britches!!!!

Braves v. Nationals (07-19-08)

Because you can go to the Braves website or ESPN and get the real play-by-play, I'm going to give you the I-was-there-sitting-in-the-stands-with-the-Atlanta-smog-and-100 degree heat-play-by-play.

My company gets Braves tickets every year for those who want to go at no cost to employees or their families. My brother wanted to come this past weekend, and that was when our company game was scheduled, so I begged for another ticket. Then I find out his best friend was planning to come. Um, Bubby, were you planning on mentioning that to me? Seeing as it is my house and my food and my water and my electricity you little assholes are using. And it is my company that is giving these tickets to us. So, I heard through the grapevine that we had a metric-shit-ton of extra tickets, and, being the great big sister that I am, I begged for one more. So, here we are--Travis, and me, and my brother, and his best friend--all going to the game.

We leave the house at like 3 PM to take Pepe to Momma #2 (no, not Poopoo Mom, Travis' mom) because he had, like, 7 shots that morning, and he can't be left alone after those shots since he might swell up and die. (Chihuahua's are very prone to vaccine reactions.) We drop him off, and head to Sonny's to eat dinner. (We had a coupon for $5 off the "Feast for Four", in which you get sliced pork, sliced beef, BBQ chicken, and ribs, three sides, garlic bread, and four drinks for $34. So, we got it for $29. Pretty good if you ask me...) We left Sonny's around 5PM to head for the game. We wanted to get there a little early, get parked, and see if there was anything cool going on pre-game, since we never get there early enough to see.

But, then, we hit a snag, as we always, inevitably do. There was construction on I-75 going into the city. Shit. I fucking hate Atlanta. There is construction on every single damned road in the metro-area 24 hours a day 7 days a week every single week of the ever-lovin' year! And of course it is always where we need to go. So, after going about 2 miles in 30 minutes, we got off the interstate and headed for the surface streets with Mom on Mapquest. Now, Atlanta is renowned for changing the names of its streets on a daily basis, and, apparently, none of the mapmakers have caught on to the concept yet. So, here we are without the GPS (left the damn thing at home because we "knew" where we were going!) and Mom with the defunct-since-yesterday maps trying to find a familiar road. We finally decide that Ralph David Abernathy is the Georgia Avenue Mom is talking about, and we start seeing little signs that say "Turner Field". Now, to you assholes that put up these tiny little signs behind ENORMOUS bushes and trees, you should be tied to the bumper of a Pinto and driven around Atlanta at rush-hour. That's the kind of punishment you deserve for making those damned signs so small and so hidden you can't see them unless you are making an illegal U-turn and hitting the curb while 57 cars honk at you and your impending doom.

So, once we finally get on Abernathy going the right way, we cap a hill, and there it is: Turner Field. I swear I heard the angels going "ahhhhhh" it was such a magnificent sight after the 15 minute ride that took us 2 shittastic hours. We immediately parked. I think Travis sensed that the blood vessel in my forehead was about to burst, and my massive coronary was not far behind. Did I mention I hate traffic?

And, there we are, off to the races. We get inside and rush to our seats. Thank God I took a piss at Sonny's, since I had two huge glasses of their pink lemonade, and then I sat in a car for two hours just to rush to another seat without finding a bathroom. I, amazingly, made it, like, 7 hours without taking a leak. I think that's a record for me.

We sit down, and all of the people from the other office (in Alabama) are already there. They got to take a nice cozy chartered bus. The only person not there yet was from my office in Atlanta. Funny, huh? And, like clockwork, my brother proceeds to curse like a sailor. Yes, my dears, it runs in the family. So, I have to whack him upside the head, and remind him that I am, for all intents and purposes, at work, and to shut the hell up.

Finally, I can enjoy the game, or so I think. Then, Mr. and Mrs. I-Let-My-Shithead-Child-Run-Wild-In-Public sit down behind me. Now, I understand children don't enjoy sitting for three hours at a professional sporting event. So, leave the little shits at home! I got pretty sick of getting hit in the head or shoulder, having Daddy save me from impending blows by sippy-cups, toys, or programs, and listening to Mommy say "Stop that." "Sit down." "I'm a raging retard.", so I moved to the opposite end of TrashCan, TReed, and Bubby (as they'd been for bowling the night before). Finally, some peace. And, I'm sure Mr. and Mrs. My-Child-Is-Perfect were pissed at me for moving and so obviously telling their little angel "fuck you" (in a few less words, of course, i.e., no words) because I was just such a bitch for not liking children. For the record, I like children just fine--when children (or adults that act like them) are not raising them. Got it?

But, the game was pretty boring, and talk soon became more entertaining, unfortunately. Because my brother and his best friend spent the better part of the day being lazy and worthless as they are so apt to do, Chappelle's Show on DVD became the topic of conversation. (I made the mistake of not having cable with a couple of shitheads at my house, and all there was to watch was the "Chappelle's Show" Box Set I got Travis for Christmas.) So, of course, the evening turned to Lil Jon talking to Lil Jon and was fraught with "What?"s and "Yeah"s and "OK"s. There were even a few "Ha ha ha"s in a deep voice and some "Pardon me madame"s in the same deep voice. (See below.)

And, even though the Atlanta smog looked like the dust from a nuclear fallout, and the temperature was somewhere around hell, it made for an entertaining evening. I will say, though, that when I go back in September, I'll be taking my Magellan, with traffic reports.
Final Score: 2-8 Washington

Dawg Days of Summer

While we may not be in the dog days of summer just yet, it is a Dawg Day for sure. As anyone who loves football--even those terrible Tigers, greasy Gators, vile Volunteers (who we hate the most most most!!!), jerky Jackets, grouchy Gamecocks, trashy Tides, wacky Wildcats, crappy Commodores, wanna-be Bulldogs (that's Mippapippi State, guys), raunchy Razorbacks, and rancid Rebels--already knows, our beloved Uga VI has passed. Some speculation about his retirement after the 2007 season came up, but he was never officially retired to my knowledge. They have yet to name the replacement (Uga VII), but Sonny Seiler (Uga breeder extraordinaire) assured us "That's been taken care of". It is a day of mourning but, also, a day of new beginnings, for the next Uga Era is on the horizon. Godspeed, Uga VII.
